Bullying in Schools
Bullying is a serious issue that affects a huge number of people not only at school but also throughout our lives at work and in social groups.
All schools should have an anti-bullying policy and enforce it so that any incidents of bullying are discovered and dealt with promptly and with due care for all the parties involved.
If you or anyone you know is suffering from bullying at school we recommend the childline website at: Childline
Two of the founder members of WishWorks were bullied at school- Sally Edwards at junior school where nobody would talk to her because she was ugly and boring and Katie Griffiths at senior school because she was “posh”. This is, therefore, a subject close to our hearts and we researched it thoroughly before beginning work on “Fynn Dragon”.
In our show we tried to encompass many different aspects of bullying- verbal, physical and exclusion. We also wanted the children to understand the difference between bullying and a mistake or accident, the difference between bullying and rough play, and an argument or falling out between friends.
The feedback we have received from schools who saw this project has been very positive and we hope to continue work around this issue, and the need for Developing Positive Friendships in younger children.
