Notes for providers, shadow puppet workshop

Running Time – Variable. Simple shadow puppets can be made in a short time with young children (1 hour), they can get more complicated with split pins and coloured gels, or drawn in colour on acetate. Workshops can include the opportunity for children to see their puppets on a screen and even perform a short show (we can make puppets especially for a story if required or make up a story with whatever puppets they make)

Number of workshops possible in one school day – Variable

Maximum number of participants – single class

Ideal age of children – Year 1 to Year 6, younger children may need more adult help e.g. with cutting (it depends if you want the workshop to be child led or have an impressive outcome!) Older children can learn the science behind shadows.

Set up time –30 minutes

Space required – classroom art room or hall. We will need one end clear to set up shadow screen for demonstration.

Parent/staff help required – teaching staff must be present.

Cost (inclusive of VAT and travel within one hour of Lewes, East Sussex):

• One workshop - £150
• Two workshops - £200

In conjunction with a show:

• Show - £300
• Show and one workshop - £400

(Please note, if school books show as well as workshops there is additional set up time – minimum 2 hours)

Materials charge – no material charge but if the school can provide cereal boxes we would be grateful

Materials for school to provide – scissors, pens and, if possible cereal boxes or similar thin cardboard.
